Queen City versus Marauders!

Queen City Rams (63) vs. Boulder Marauders (13)
RAMS vs Marauders Match Report 10.11.2025
Pleasant View Park, Boulder CO
By Charlie Haupt
A very cloudy day with a threat of rain for the early morning kickoff against the Boulder
Marauders. The venue was Pleasant View Park in Boulder, CO. An excellent grass field, one
of the better ones in the State of Colorado. The pitch was fast and well-marked for this D4 clash
between the Queen City Rams and the Boulder Marauders.

Rams vs. Marauders:
The team decked out in their orange and black full kit were led out by Captain Aiden Wilson.
The captain won the toss. The Rams received the kick-off defending the south in-goal and
immediately went on the hunt.

The Men in Orange dominated the immediate play; however, some handling miscues kept them
at bay until No. 8 Aiden Wilson made a long break getting behind the Marauders defense.
Referee Geaslen spotted a ruck infraction against the Marauders. Center Romero placed the
kick deep into Marauders territory. The line out went awry; but the Rams were still able to
maintain possession. Once a gain Referee Geaslen penalized the Men in Black. A quick tap
was taken, and 2 nd Rower Sal powered his way over the tryline for the first points on the day.
The conversion was missed but the Men in Orange was on the board at the 11 th minute mark for
a 5 – 0 lead for which they would never relinquish.
Referee Geaslen penalized the Rams for holding on. The Marauders were true with the penalty
goal to cut into City’s lead 5 – 3 at the 13 th minute.

For the next several minutes, there were errors on both sides. Under heavy defensive pressure,
the Marauders knock-on. A good scrum gave the Rams an attack platform. No. 8 Wilson
picked from the base of the scrum and sprinted his way to pay dirt. The conversion was once
again missed wide; but the Rams extended their lead to 10 – 3 at the 19 th minute mark.

The ensuing kick-off saw the ball pass along the back line where Center Romero placed a well-
directed kick. Fullback Ben Anderson gave chase putting pressure on the Marauder receiver.
The Marauder mishandled the kick, and the Rams were able to gather the pill. Supporting Prop

AJ following up after some nifty passing from the Rams powered his way over for the try.
Center Romero added the extras from a steep angle to extend the Rams lead to 17 – 3 at the
21 st minute.

The Marauders gathered some momentum. Putting several phases together until Referee
Geaslen penalized the Rams for offside and the Marauders slotted the penalty kick to cut into
the Men in Orange lead 17 – 6 at the 30 th minute.

The Rams came right back. A great “jackal” on the ensuing kick-off put the Rams back on the
front foot. A good scrum gave the Men in Orange an excellent attacking platform. Flyhalf Jack
Carmone makes a half-break putting Center Derek French into the gap. Derek burst through
the Marauders cover defense, sprinting 35 meters to the in-goal for the try. Center Romero
added the conversion to extend City’s lead to 24 – 6 at the 32 nd minute of the match.

Was too much longer, the Men in Orange had their next score. A Marauder’s lineout was stolen
by the Ram’s. Scrumhalf Kris Coleman took the ball into contact. The Rams’ forwards went to
work. Keeping the ball alive with two excellent executed “Avalanches”, Prop AJ picked and
powered his way to pay dirt for his second try on the day. Center Romero once again added the
extras to extend the lead to 31 – 6 at the 39 th minute after which Referee Geaslen whistled for
half-time.

Second half was much like the first half with the Men in Orange on the front foot and attacking
the Men in Black with vengeance. From a scrum, No. 8 Wilson makes a break feeding
Scrumhalf Coleman who then passed out to Fullback Ben Anderson. Anderson raced 45
meters and despite a high tackle (horse collar) was able to dot down for the try. The extras
were missed to bring the scoreline to 36 – 6 at 47-minute mark of the match.

At the next kick-off, Captain Wilson takes the kick goes off on a jaunt through the Marauder
defensive coverage. After several good offloads, Scrumhalf finds a hard charging Prop AJ who
raced for his “Hat Trick” try. Flyhalf Carmone added the extras to extend the lead to 43 – 6.

Once again Captain Wilson takes the ensuing kick-off and makes a huge break. It seems the
Marauders wanted nothing to do with hard charging No. 8. After a quick recycling, the pill was
placed through the hands and finally into the hands of Fullback Anderson. The speedy fullback

raced to pay dirt for his second try on the day. The conversion was missed wide giving the
Rams a 48 – 6 lead at the 51 st minute.

Replacement Flanker Steve O’Malley set up the next Queen City score. O’Malley makes a half
break offloading to Prop AJ who offloaded to 2 nd Rower Sal who raced the final 45 meters for his
second try on the day. The conversion plunked off the post to run the score line to 53 – 6 at 54 th
minute.

The 60 th minute 2 nd Rower Sal was shown a yellow card for back chat to Referee Geaslen and
jawing with a Marauder player. After this the Marauders were able to finally able to solve the
Men in Orange stout defense to score a try. The try was converted to bring the score line to 53
– 13 at the 65 th minute of the match.

At the next kick-off the Rams’ forwards counter rucked to win back possession. The Rams
having fun put together several phases and hands to put Fullback Anderson away for his “Hat
Trick” from 25 meters out. The conversion was once again missed but the lead was extended
to 58 – 13 at the 67th minute.

Once again, Captain Wilson gathered the kickoff and continued his outstanding play, making
another long break. This time he offloaded to Center French who scampered the rest of the
way for his second try. The conversion was once again missed. At this time, Referee Geaslen
had seen enough and ended the match for safety reasons. The final Queen City Rams 63 and
the Boulder Marauders 13.

Fine well-rounded game from the Queen City Rams. Much appreciated and thanks to the extra
bodies that filled out the side for this D4 match. My apologies for not getting the full name of
some of those filling the roster. A tough one coming up in a week’s time against the archrival
Highlanders. Time to buckle down and get a much-needed victory against a tough league
opponent. All hands-on deck this next week training.

GO CITY!!
