Queen City defeats Northside 55-15!

Queen City vs. Northside Marauders 9/27/14 – Match Report

A beautiful day was in store for the men in Orange and Black as they prepared to take on their brethren from the north, the Northside Marauders. Sunny and warm was the order of the day at Infinity Park South turf field. The match was supposed to play on the October 4th; however, Littleton Eagles has folded as a club and Northside had a bye so we hooked up and played.
The match started slow for QC as we seemed to not have our hands, we could not catch kicks, and our set pieces left a lot to be desired. Stout defense kept the men in white at bay as we settled down and started playing Queen City ball. Some great tactical kicking by Flyhalf Scott Trench pinned Northside deep in their territory. Recycled ball and some great line movement put Inside Center Scott Dishner into space for the first score on the afternoon at the 10 minute mark. The conversion bounced off the post to give Queen City the lead at 5 - 0. Once again a great kick by Flyhalf Scott pinned Northside deep into their territory and they shanked a clearing kick into touch at the five meter line. A great driving maul sent the boys in Orange and Black over the line where Hooker Andrew Nelson touch down for a try at the 17th minute mark. Again the conversion was no good to give Queen City at 10 - 0 lead. City took the kick-off and once again put pressure on the gentlemen from the north through some good tactical kicking and hard running. Recycle ball from a ruck saw the City backs once again with good line movement and good hard angles put Inside Center Scott Dishner into space to dot down under the post. The conversion by Flyhalf Scott Trench extended the Queen City lead to 17 - 0 at the 25 minute mark. Once again the men in Orange and Black put the men in White and Green under pressure with stout defense which yielded a ruck offense penalty. Flyhalf Scott Trench put the kick through the uprights for a 20 - 0 lead at the 30 minute mark. The final surge into Northside territory saw Fullback Alex Knorr fill into the backline to scoot over for a try in the corner which Flyhalf Scott Trench converted from a tough angle to give City a 27 - 0 lead at the 35 minute mark which ended the scoring for the half.
Second half saw the men in Orange and Black pick up right where the left off. Hard running and good movement by the backs saw Scott Dishner, who had moved to Outside Center after an injury to Scott Izat, feed Winger Eric Baliruno into space who took the pill 30 meters for a try at the 44 minute mark. Conversion was wide to give City a 32 - 0 lead. Orange and Black went back on the attack and once again Fullback Alex Knorr filling into the backline to dot down beneath the posts which Flyhalf Scott Trench converted for a 39 - 0 City lead at the 49th minute mark. Another tactical kick saw Winger Eric Baliruno and Outside Center Scott Dishner putting pressure on the Northside deep three. Winger Baliruno gathered the ball but was tackled short of the line which he fed Center Dishner for his third try on the day. The conversion was again wide; so the City lead was extended to 44 - 0 at the 54 minute. At this time Northside Marauders came alive and some lapse in City's stout defense saw the men in White and Green score a try which went unconverted to put the score at 44 - 5 at the 60th minute. The men in Orange and Black gathered themselves to go back on the attack. Pressure by City saw another rucking offense which Referee John Kenny award a penalty kick which Flyhalf Scott Trench split the uprights for a 47 - 5 lead at the 64 minute mark. Again the men in Orange and Black took the kick-off and went back on the attack. Hard rucking and recycling of the ball saw the backline move the ball and Outside Center Scott Dishner broke through the defense for his fourth try in the match which went unconverted for a 52 - 5 lead at the 67 minute mark. Unfortunately, City went to sleep for a few minutes which led to two well-deserved tries by Northside at the 70th and 72nd minutes of the match to give City a 52 - 15 lead. However, City buttoned up and went back on attack which led to another penalty kick which Flyhalf Scott Trench split the uprights at the final whistle by Referee John Kenny for a 55 - 15 victory for the men in orange and Black.
His four tries earned Center Scott Dishner Back Man-of-the-Match. Coach Andrew Nelson earned the Scrummie Man-of-the-Match for stepping to fill in as Hooker and his great play in the rucks and open play. Great line movement and hitting space at good angles saw the City backs have a great day at the office. Forwards with their workman like attitude winning ball, maintaining possession, and recycling ball to allow the backs freedom to roam all over the field.
